Frequently Asked Questions - Dentures FAQ's

1) How long will it take to make my new dentures?

Our standard denture service usually takes about 5 days, but if you’re in a hurry we do offer a 2 day denture service. This is much faster than conventional denture suppliers who can take weeks to complete your new dentures.

2) How will my new dentures work?

Upper dentures are usually made to stay in place by suction, whereas the lower denture is usually designed to fit around the gums and jaw muscles. Injection moulded denture bases should help lower dentures to fit the wearer better. Newport Denture Clinic uses Ivoclar's injection moulded B.P.S (Biofunctional Prosthetic System) teeth which are extremely high quality dentures.

3) Will my new dentures affect the way I speak?

Getting new dentures will have an effect on the way you speak. Don’t worry as this is usually temporary. Most people have difficulty pronouncing certain words at first, but you’ll soon get the hang of it. Try reading difficult words out loud to help yourself along.

4) What’s the best way to clean my dentures?

Similarly to teeth, dentures will start to get a build-up of plaque. If you do not remove this plaque daily your dentures may stop fitting properly and may also start to look out of shape in your mouth. Your dentures can break, so always fill the sink with cool or warm water.

NEVER use hot water as this may warp your dentures. Rinse them thoroughly to get rid of any loose food or particles. Then you can brush your dentures with your cleaning paste. DO NOT use ordinary toothpaste or other potentially toxic substances; also avoid using stiff bristled brushes, this also helps to avoid damaging your dentures. Rinse well after you are done. It’s also a good idea to soak your dentures in a denture cleanser overnight.

5) How long will my dentures last?

Your new dentures will typically last from five to ten years dependant on the degree of quality you have paid for. The shape of your gums and mouth will continue to change but by visiting your denture clinic fairly regularly it should be easy to spot any irregularities along the way.
